When Microsoft unveiled the new Microsoft Store on Windows 11 , it let everyone know that the new store would also come to Windows 10. Today, Microsoft started to push the new Microsoft Store to Windows 10 devices of the Insider Release Preview ring.,While that limits the official distribution to Insider devices at the moment, it is an indicator that the Store will become available soon on stable versions of Windows 10. Even better, Windows 10 users who don’t want to wait, can download the new Store application right now and upgrade the existing Store on any supported version of Windows 10, including the Stable version. DefenderUI: manage Microsoft Defender with this profile-based third-party app

Image
DefenderUI is a free program for Microsoft’s Windows operating system that helps users manage Microsoft Defender, the default security application on the system, better. Managing Microsoft Defender is not a straightforward process. Microsoft moved many options to the Settings application. The nested approach makes it difficult and time consuming to manage Defender. DefenderUI offers a configuration interface for all-things Microsoft Defender. The program is compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11, and uses a profile-based approach to security. How to restore the Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 11

Image
Windows 11 brings a slew of new features , some of which have not been well received among users. If you look at the previous iteration, it also had some unwelcome changes such as the Photos app, which replaced the Windows Photo Viewer. The Photos App isn’t bad at all, in fact it comes with a built-in Video Editor, and I think it is quite useful. The main reason why people do not like the Photos app is due to its performance. It is rather sluggish to open, it takes an extra second or two to load, even when you are trying to view images which are just a few KB in size. The interface may appear slightly confusing, if you are coming over from Photo Viewer. Well, if you like the simplicity of the legacy application, you are probably going to be disappointed to hear that Windows 11 does not include Photo Viewer by default. You can verify this by selecting any image and right-clicking on it. Select the “Open With” menu item and click on “Choose Another App”. Click the “More Apps” option a

How to manage search indexing on Windows 11

Image
Search on Windows 11 has not changed all that much when compared to Windows 10. That’s not really a reason to rejoice, considering that Windows 11 users may run into the same search related issues as their Windows 10 counterparts. What those are? Apart from quality issues that may result in the wrong files being returned when you search, it is also quite common to run into performance related issues. Search indexing is on by default, and the search indexer runs regularly to index new or changed files. Search indexing scans all folders that are set for indexation by Windows. It records all new files, changed files and removed files, and updates the index accordingly. The index is used to return files based on their names, content and other parameters. This guide walks you through the steps of configuring search indexing on Windows 11. You may use it to troubleshoot issues that you have, for instance by making sure that certain folders do get indexed, or by removing folders from index

How to install Android apps on Windows 11

Image
When Microsoft unveiled Windows 11 , one thing that surprised users was support for Android apps. Up until now, the only way for users to run Android apps in Windows, was to use third-party solutions such as the Bluestacks emulator. Naturally, many users were eagerly anticipating the feature to arrive when the new operating system shipped, but it wasn’t to be. There were delays in the development cycle, and support for mobile apps was pushed back, in order to focus on stabilizing the core functionality of the OS. A few days ago, Microsoft announced a new Windows 11 build for participants in the Insider Preview Program’s Beta Channel. While that is good news, there are a couple of caveats here. For starters, it is only available in the US region. The second requirement is a US-based Amazon account, because that’s what Windows 11 uses to download and install Android apps.
