As I anticipated a few days ago, GOM Mix Max’s brand new video editing software has been launched on November 30th, 2021. The First Impression
As soon as you open GOM Mix Max, you’ll notice that it’s decidedly less flashy than many other programs. The first menu has very little imagery or colors to pull your attention anywhere. However, this is by no means a con. The sleek, black design that they’ve gone for gives it a very clean look, and the large “New Project” and “Open Project” buttons that you’re greeted with make it obvious what to start doing.
Once you open or begin a project, you’ll find yourself in the main editing interface. You can jump between the home and editing menu at any time, which is a nice touch. Overall, maneuvering through the program as a whole is very pleasant. The ability to jump from different tools and menus is extremely important when it comes to video editing. You will likely use a majority of those tools at some point. You really don’t want to have to dance in a circle just to hop between different effects and settings.
One of the other things you’ll notice right away is the included step-by-step tutorial. These are step-by-step screenshots that can quickly acquaint you with all the necessary tools of the program. They’ll go over how to get started, how to find and apply effects, how to use transitions, and how to export your video. Overall, it’s a compact yet helpful guide to help users get into the software without immediately having to look up a guide.
GOM Mix Max Features
GOM Mix Max’s goal is to bring everything you’d need from a typical video editing software but at a fraction of the price of other programs on the market. So, does it succeed? Overall, I’d say yes.
First off, the interface is extremely easy to navigate. All of your essentials are easily visible and right where you need them. You can drag any audio and video files that you’d like to edit into the clip area. Once you have all your resources together, you can take a look at the tracks at the bottom. These tracks are where you’ll organize the video and audio that you want to play. The tracks can be used to change the order in which they play, as well the priority of layers, allowing you to choose what video plays over or next to other videos if the tracks overlap. You can also change many properties of individual clips themselves through the tracks, such as speed, volume, etc.
However, the real fun begins when you take a look at the other tabs near the top. Under effects, you’ll find countless ways to transform, distort, and alter the image and audio of your video. The effects library actually measures up quite favorably to other similar software, especially since those programs are often about quadruple the price of GOM Mix Max.
Besides effects, you have overlays, an easy way to add some eye-catching flair to the video. Anything from minor lighting shifts to make an image pop, all the way to adding bubbles flying past the camera to make for a fun effect.
And finally, there are transitions. This library holds all the fun ways that you can make one clip lead into the next, either by dissolving, fading, pushing, bending, distorting, or many other transitions between two clips.
All of these different categories of effects and edits are rich with options. GOM Mix Max is in no short supply of different ways to add fun and useful visual and audio edits to your footage. It’s also highly customizable. You can favorite your most-used effects to find easily later and customize shortcuts and hotkeys to get to all of them, allowing you to customize the entire editing workstation to suit your needs exactly.
Once you have a finished product that you’re proud of, you can go through the final phase. GOM Mix Max has an incredibly fast encoding and exporting time and is optimized for all different YouTube-friendly aspect ratios and resolutions. I found the export times to be about half that of most of the other studio video editing software I’ve used prior, which was a very pleasant surprise.
Overall, GOM Mix Max comes loaded with a vast wealth of features and settings that can let it stand toe-to-toe with just about any major video editing program out there, especially for most standard purposes. Sure, it might not have the capabilities required to make a feature film, but that’s not what it’s trying to achieve. Besides, if you’re looking for film studio-level software, I’m afraid to say that you’re looking in the wrong price range.

After covering everything that GOM Mix Max is able to match with similar software, it’s time to tackle what makes it stand out. Particularly the price tag.
GOM Mix Max offers some neat features that are pretty unique, but nothing comes near the price.
